Carnival & Antarctica (3 Weeks)

Here is where things can get tricky…depending on when Carnival is that year, whether it be early February or March, determines where this part of the trip and South America starts. I’ll go with the ideal situation that Carnival would be starting in beginning to mid-February lasting for one week, then heading to Buenos Aires by plane to catch a flight down to Ushuaia. You would need to get to Ushuaia as soon as possible (cheapest flights being from Buenos Aires) in order to catch the last few boats heading to Antartica before it becomes too cold and the season ends in the beginning of March. It’s also important to get this underway so that you can travel south to north and do some hiking in Patagonia before Winter is full blown.

Brazil:

  • Rio De Janeiro (7 days) – Carnival for one week (February 6th-February 14th)

Argentina:

Very impressive, JR! You really show how to see this magnificent planet. That route south from Egypt looks a little dicey, good for you trying it! I’ve done long trips and found is that people are pretty much the same everywhere, and mostly really decent once you connect with them. (And never again did I trust what governments said about other places.)
My big trip, 1973: overland Luxembourg-Nepal, thru much of India & SEA, boat from Singapore to Fremantle, drove all Australia, island hopped to S.America, overland to Venezuela, then all of Central America. Took 9 months. Since then I keep traveling as time, family, money permits, though giving cruise ship lectures on destinations also helps. 7 continents (Antarctica last year), 111 countries, Haiti was a bit touchy, Andorra & the Azores pleasant, loved Tunisia, thought Albania was cool, Cuba fascinating, and where can we go next?

This is incredible! I’ve been scouring the internet for an itinerary as perfect as the one you build. Currently planning a RTW 7 continent trip – but shooting for seven months to a year duration. Any chance we could collaborate on an itinerary? Please let me know. Great work!
